SteepleCats Send Six Players and Three Coaches to All-Star Game

North Adams, Mass. - The North Adams SteepleCats will be well represented at the 2010 NECBL All-Star Game this Sunday night in Newport, R.I. Matty Petty, Kyle Saul and Mike LeBel have all been named starters, Garrett Gray will be available off the bench, Corey Vogt will be available as a relief pitcher and Sean Albury has been named the team's closer. The team will be managed by SteepleCats manager Chris Moore.

Petty, a junior at Barry University, will be starting at third base for the Western Division. He's hitting .379 on the season with four home runs and 15 runs batted in. He has an on-base percentage of .411 and a slugging percentage of .621. His .379 batting average is second best in the league, his four home runs are tied for second most in the league and his .621 slugging percentage leads the league. He earned the league's Co-Player of the Week honor for the week that ended July 4.

Saul, a junior at the University of California San Diego, will be starting in the outfield. He's currently hitting .342 with seven runs batted in and 11 stolen bases. His on-base percentage stands at .430. His .342 batting average and .430 on-base percentage are both fifth best in the league, while his 11 stolen bases are tied for second most in the league.

LeBel, a sophomore at the University of Rhode Island, will get the start at shortstop. LeBel is hitting .269 this season with a home run, seven runs batted in, seven stolen bases and 18 runs scored. His 18 runs scored are tied for fourth-most in the league.

Gray will be available to catch off the bench. Gray, a sophomore at Wright State University, is hitting .268 this season with seven runs batted in.

Vogt, a junior at Keene State College, will be available to pitch in relief. Vogt is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA this season in 13 relief appearances. In 12 innings pitched, Vogt has allowed just one run on three hits and seven walks while striking out 21 batters. Opponents are hitting just .086 against Vogt this season.

Albury will serve as the Western Division's clsoer. Albury has dominated for the SteepleCats this season. He's 1-0 with nine saves and a 0.00 ERA. In 11 2/3 innings pitched, Albury hasn't given up a run while allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out 15 batters. His nine saves lead the league.

Moore will manage the team with Bobby Segal and Steven Goldburg serving as his assistants. It's the first time ever that a SteepleCats' manager will manage an all-star team.

The game will be played this Sunday night at Cardines Field in Newport, R.I. at 6:35 p.m. The All-Star Skills Competitions will start at 1:45 p.m. Competitions will include the 60-yard dash, the best outfield arm contest and the best catcher arm contest. Those events will be followed by the annual home run derby.
