Biography:
In just his second season at Lamar University, Andy Mena was one of the team’s best all-around hitters. Hitting second in the lineup for most of the year, Mena led the Cardinals with a .350 batting average as the team entered the Southland Conference Tournament. A threat to drive in runs and steal bases, Mena also provided a tremendous glove in the middle of the infield. He and teammate Aaron Buchanan were a great double play combination. At the end of the regular season Mena was named to the All-Southland Conference Third Team.
Mena’s sophomore season was his first season at Lamar. That season Mena batted .315 with two home runs and 10 RBI while appearing in 26 games. Mena played his freshman season in 2007 at Army. He appeared in six games for Army and went 1-for-8 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
Mena was a four-year letter winner at Huffman-Hargrave High School. He earned first-team all-district honors at third base all four years. Mena also earned four letters in basketball and two in football. A member of the National Honor Society in high school, Mena graduated third in his class of 328.
