Biography:
Along with fellow SteepleCat Tom Coulombe, Mike LeBel was one of the most productive – and feared – hitters in the University of Rhode Island lineup in 2010. LeBel displayed uncanny power for his size and hit leadoff as well as in the three-hole for the Rams. Additionally, Lebel stole more than 20 bases and played sensational defense at shortstop. In the Atlantic 10 Conference, LeBel ranks second in runs scored, twelfth in hits and seventh in stolen bases. Defensively, LeBel has played sensational defense at shortstop and ranks fifth in assists.
In 2009, LeBel played mostly at third base while starting 54 of URI’s 58 games. He hit .323 with seven home runs and 41 RBI. On the base paths, he stole 17 bases in 24 attempts. For his efforts, LeBel earned a spot on the 2009 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. In the summer of 2009 LeBel appeared in 38 games for the North Shore Navigators of the NECBL and saw time at shortstop and second base. LeBel hit .197 and walked a team-leading 23 times to post a .333 OBP. He was also tied for second on the team in stolen bases with seven and fifth in runs batted in with 10.
LeBel played high school baseball at Quincy High School. He also played golf and hockey there and captained both the golf and baseball teams as a senior.
