Biography:
Guido Knudson has been an incredibly versatile pitcher in his three seasons at the University of California San Diego. As a freshman and as a junior, Knudson was a dependable starter. As a sophomore, Knudson was an all-conference closer. His presence in North Adams this summer will add depth and flexibility to the SteepleCats pitching staff.
In 2010, Knudson helped lead the Tritons to the Division II College World Series for a second consecutive year. Heading into the Division II CWS, Knudson was 9-3 and had held opponents to a .240 batting average. He had struck out 71 batters in 81 1/3 innings while walking just 20.
As the Tritons closer in 2009, Knudson led the staff with 30 appearances. He went 4-1, recorded 10 saves and posted a 4.28 ERA. He struck out 38 batters and walked just 11 in 40 innings of work. Knudson was the lone relief pitcher named to the 2009 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association First Team and also earned first team ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region honors and NCBWA All-American honors.
In the summer of 2009, Knudson was the closer for the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley Baseball League. Knudson appeared in 14 games, went 2-1 and recorded nine saves. His nine saves were second-most in the league. He posted a 1.65 ERA and struck out 16 batters in 16 1/3 innings of work.
As a freshman starter at UCSD in 2008, Knudson appeared in 17 games and made 15 starts. He went 6-5 with a 4.08 ERA. He led the staff with 86 innings pitched and was tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 60.
