A native of the South Beach region of the Sunshine State, Roberto Baroniel Jr. heads to the Berkshires from one of the top Division II programs in the country after competing in his first season of collegiate baseball with the Nova Southeastern Sharks.

Better known as “Bubba”, Baroniel has made five appearances and four starts for the Sharks during his rookie campaign, posting a 1-0 record with 23 strikeouts in over 20 innings of work. His command was one of his strongest traits, indicative of his 23 strikeouts and just five walks during that span. Baroniel will surely prove to be a valuable asset for the SteepleCats pitching staff this summer.

Before arriving at Nova Southeastern, Baroniel played five years of baseball at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School under head coach Andres Blanco. During his senior season, he held an impressive 2.01 ERA while striking out 78 batters and issuing just 18 walks in 70 innings pitched. As a result, he was named the Pitcher and Sportsmen of the Year.

A biology major at Nova Southeastern, Baroniel lists his pregame ritual as sticking the wrapper of the ball in his back right pocket. The son of Robert and Esther Baroniel. Baroniel was born Aug. 20, 1993. He has one sister, Christina.
