Slider is the official mascot of the North Adams SteepleCats.  In 2002, the Watterson family reached out to the northern Berkshire County community and asked them to participate in naming the teams' mascot.  The only requirements from the Wattersons was that the team's nickname should reflect the community and be able to be a mascot.  Hundreds of nominations were submitted with the eventual SteepleCats being selected.  The reason this nickname reflects our community is that the downtown North Adams city has seven steeples reflecting the numberous Catholic churches and Baptist and Protestant churches.   The Cats portion of the nickname made it easy to find a mascot uniform that kids and fans of all kinds would enjoy see wandering through the grandstands.
